Even my white male friends who insist I read about why Trumpsters voted the way they did.
They mean well, and I absolutely understand where they are coming from.
So I spent yesterday doing just that. Reading about what made Trump voters support him. There are myriad reasons, it seems. Jobs shipped overseas or given to immigrants who did it for less. Poor education systems. Religion. Disenfranchisement. Moral decay. Rigged system.
The list goes on and on.
But what is always missed or ignored is the simple fact that the man ran on a platform of hate, of exclusion of Other and people processed that information and thought, yep, this is my candidate.
Despite the reports of the uptick of hate crimes by those emboldened by his campaign people still thought... well, I have no fucking idea what they thought.
Trump voters and the KKK share something in common. That much I do know.
But nothing I have read has changed my sentiment about Trump voters. They are complicit in every hate crime carried out in his name and every shit piece of legislation that rolls back the hard fought rights of any number of groups.
So, to all of my well meaning white male friends, I have done my homework. I will continue to do so. I just don't have the luxury of pretending that this is politics and not personal.
