Well, I like roses but, I don't like guns.
That was a conversation I had in 1987 with my high school sweetheart. It came to mind this morning as I was answering a Facebook PM about a post I shared yesterday about the new California gun law that allows the police to confiscate your guns for 21 days if you are deemed a risk to yourself or others.
For those who do not follow me on FB (why not?), in a nutshell I agree that, while the law may be imperfect, it is absolutely a step in the right direction. And I say that as a gun owner.
So I have gotten about a dozen messages about it. Most of them agreeing with me, a couple not so much. No one really batshit crazy though. One I didn't really understand - it was in English, but the words were not put together in any order that made sense.
Mostly, I was relieved that I could engage in intelligent conversation with strangers about an issue we disagreed about without it devolving into the usual bullshit.
Discourse leads to a better world, boys and girls.
And I think we can all agree: a better world in 2016 is something we all want.
I'm interested in hearing what this band sounds like live...
